Register here and become a Volunteer Child Advocate today!
The Minnesota state legislative session is underway-- come and speak up for children with us!
First time visiting with your state legislators? That's ok! We are excited to help get you the tools and training you need for successful (virtual) visits with your legislators!
To prepare for our Virtual Child Advocacy Weeks, we teach YOU, our Volunteer Child Advocates, about the crucial issues which are most important right now to help abused and neglected Minnesota children. The training information will be emailed to you once you are registered and we are scheduling your virtual/Zoom calls with your two legislators.
Appointments with your two legislators during Virtual Child Advocacy Weeks are geared to fit your schedule needs. Please indicate your scheduling preferences during the registration process.
Then, during our Virtual Child Advocacy Weeks, YOU, our Volunteer Child Advocates, will meet (virtually) with your Minnesota State Senator and Representative to share your story and educate your elected officials about the crucial challenges facing abused, neglected, and vulnerable Minnesota children right now. We will attend our (virtual) Zoom call meetings with your legislators in pairs or small groups, networking with other Child Advocates and Safe Passage Volunteers, and, most importantly, educate our legislators about the crucial challenges facing Minnesota's most vulnerable children right now.
Our elected officials love to hear from YOU, their constituents, and they are excited to meet you and and learn more about how they can help Minnesota children.
*Can't make during our Virtual Child Advocacy Weeks but still want to advocate for children with Safe Passage? Just send an email to stephanie@safepassageforchildren.org and she will help you schedule alternative times to meet with your legislators.
Last year Minnesota children were safer and received more services due in large part to the loyal donors and passionate volunteers of Safe Passage for Children of Minnesota. 13,600 more children annually are getting help from county child protection agencies due to changes our passionate volunteers helped make in state law.
In addition, counties and the state increased their budgets for child protection and foster care by over $200 million since 2015. Counties also added nearly 500 caseworkers – a 60% increase. But many challenges remain for vulnerable, neglected, and abused children in Minnesota, this year and into the future, and you are their voice at the Capitol!
Our mission is to ensure that Minnesota has a child welfare system in which children are safe and reach their full potential.
Our goal is a Minnesota child protection and foster care system in that continuously improves the lives of children, as demonstrated by objective, measurable outcomes. If the system is working well, children’s outcomes will improve over time.
